IIM Ahmedabad Launches Krishnamurthy Tandon School of AI with ₹100 Crore Endowment

India has taken a major step in advancing artificial intelligence education with the launch of the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of Artificial Intelligence at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Announced on March 27, 2026, the new school is backed by a generous ₹100 crore endowment from philanthropists Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon and Ranjan Tandon.

The new school aims to bridge the gap between rapid advances in AI and their real-world application across business, governance, and society. By combining cutting-edge AI research with IIMA’s strong management foundation, the initiative seeks to transform AI innovations into practical, high-impact solutions.

Speaking at the launch, IIMA Director Professor Bharat Bhasker highlighted that the school will help organisations adopt AI more effectively by aligning technology with real business outcomes. Chandrika Tandon described the initiative as both “exciting and essential,” underscoring AI’s transformative role in shaping the future, while IIMA Board Chairman Pankaj Patel noted that AI is rapidly redefining industries and economies worldwide.

The school will focus on responsible and strategic AI adoption, including ethical governance, workforce readiness, and integration of AI with business strategy. Alongside the launch, IIMA also released a research report titled Navigating the Future Trap with AI Value Compass, developed with Persistent Systems, which identified key gaps in enterprise AI adoption such as weak leadership vision, poor governance frameworks, and limited workforce preparedness.

Overall, the Krishnamurthy Tandon School of AI represents a significant boost to India’s education and technology ecosystem, positioning IIM Ahmedabad as a global hub for responsible, application-driven AI research and leadership.
