New Delhi: The CJP Party organized a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where party leaders, students, social activists, and supporters gathered to voice concerns over what they described as increasing restrictions on democratic protests and civil liberties. The demonstration focused on issues related to public participation, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly.
Addressing the gathering, CJP leaders alleged that recent administrative actions had created obstacles for citizens wishing to participate in peaceful protests in the national capital. The party claimed that changes in the Delhi Police leadership and heightened security arrangements were accompanied by stricter measures to control public demonstrations.
Party representatives also referred to the detention of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk during an earlier protest, describing it as an example of increasing action against peaceful demonstrators. They urged authorities to respect constitutional rights and ensure that citizens are free to express their views through democratic means.
Protest speakers further alleged that restrictions on public transport, including temporary disruptions to metro services and road traffic diversions, affected the movement of protesters attempting to reach Jantar Mantar. They also claimed that several students and participants faced police action during previous demonstrations, alleging the use of force while attempting to assemble. These allegations have been raised by protest organizers and have been subjects of public discussion, while authorities have maintained that security measures are implemented to preserve public order and prevent disruption.
Throughout the protest, participants carried banners and placards calling for the protection of democratic values, transparency in governance, and greater accountability from public institutions. Speakers emphasized that peaceful protest is a constitutional right and urged the government to engage in constructive dialogue with citizens instead of relying on restrictive measures.
Security personnel were deployed in and around Jantar Mantar to maintain law and order during the demonstration. The protest concluded peacefully, with CJP leaders submitting a memorandum outlining their demands to the concerned authorities.
The demonstration once again highlighted Jantar Mantar’s role as one of India’s principal venues for peaceful public expression, where citizens, social movements, and political organizations continue to raise issues of national importance.
