From Kings to Grooms: Why Men Are Falling in Love with Jewellery

By Priyanka Pasupuleti

A decade ago, a man wearing a heavy pearl necklace or a statement ring might have raised eyebrows. Today, he is raising fashion standards.

Across India, men’s jewellery is undergoing a remarkable transformation. No longer limited to a wedding ring or a simple gold chain, jewellery has become an extension of personal style, confidence, and status. From celebrity weddings to social gatherings and everyday fashion, men are embracing ornaments with a confidence that is reshaping the jewellery industry.

The trend is particularly visible during wedding season. Modern grooms are stepping away from minimalism and embracing grandeur. Pearl malas, temple jewellery, antique-finish necklaces, gemstone rings, brooches, kadas, layered chains, and customized accessories are becoming must-have elements of wedding attire. Inspired by royal Indian traditions, today’s groom is choosing jewellery not merely to accessorize, but to make a statement.

The influence of celebrities has accelerated this fashion movement. Actors such as Allu Arjun, Vijay Deverakonda, Naga Chaitanya and several other stars have been seen sporting elegant jewellery at weddings, movie promotions, and public appearances. Their bold fashion choices have inspired thousands of young men to experiment with accessories that were once considered unconventional.

Jewellers say the demand for men’s collections has surged significantly in recent years. Dedicated ranges featuring bracelets, chains, rings, pendants, cufflinks, and heritage-inspired pieces are witnessing strong interest. What was once purchased primarily as an investment is now being bought as a lifestyle choice.

Traditional South Indian designs are also enjoying a revival. Temple-inspired ornaments, pearls, handcrafted gold jewellery, and vintage royal pieces are finding favour among men who want to celebrate their cultural roots while maintaining a sophisticated contemporary look.

Fashion experts believe this trend signals a larger cultural shift. Modern masculinity is no longer defined by simplicity alone. Today’s men are comfortable expressing themselves through fashion, embracing accessories that reflect their personality, achievements, and individuality.

In many ways, the trend represents a return to India’s own history. Centuries ago, kings, warriors, and noblemen proudly adorned themselves with elaborate jewellery as symbols of power and prestige. What is happening today is not entirely new it is a revival of a tradition, reimagined for a modern generation.

As consumer tastes continue to evolve, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: jewellery is no longer confined to women’s wardrobes. Men are wearing it with pride, confidence, and style, turning an age-old tradition into one of the biggest fashion trends of the modern era.
