India has taken a major leap in emergency healthcare with the launch of BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita, and Maitri), a revolutionary mobile medical unit designed to save lives during critical emergencies.
Developed collaboratively by AIIMS and IITs, the BHISHM Cube is the first indigenously designed mobile hospital, compactly built into a 72 cm cube. It can be deployed within just one minute, delivering rapid trauma care in disaster-hit, remote, or inaccessible areas.
The BHISHM unit is equipped with essential life-saving tools including ventilators, oxygen systems, surgical kits, defibrillators, and AI-enabled diagnostic support. A single unit can treat 200 critical patients and save 20 lives in high-risk conditions.
Launched by the Union Health Minister at AIIMS Delhi, this mobile cube is a significant innovation for India’s health security and disaster response, especially in rural or conflict-prone zones. Its capability to be air-dropped or road-transported makes it a game-changer in emergency healthcare delivery.
With BHISHM, India strengthens its resolve for accessible, fast, and advanced trauma care, showcasing the power of innovation and self-reliance in public health infrastructure.
