Centre Approves ₹4,645.60 Crore for Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Projects Across Nine States

The Union Home Minister-led High-Level Committee (HLC) has approved ₹4,645.60 crore for disaster mitigation and recovery projects benefiting nine Indian states. Funded through the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF), the initiative aims to strengthen India’s resilience against floods, landslides, and other natural disasters.

The largest allocation, ₹692.05 crore, goes to Assam for restoring 24 wetlands in the Brahmaputra basin, enhancing flood storage, reducing erosion, and supporting fisheries. The Urban Flood Risk Management Programme Phase-II will receive ₹2,444.42 crore to safeguard 11 flood-prone cities, including Bhopal, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Lucknow.

Additional funds—₹1,270.78 crore for Assam and ₹260.56 crore for Kerala—were sanctioned for flood and landslide recovery following recent disasters.

In FY 2026, the Centre also disbursed ₹13,578.80 crore under SDRF to 27 states and ₹2,024.04 crore under NDRF to 12 states, reinforcing nationwide disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building a disaster-resilient India through proactive planning, infrastructure rebuilding, and ecosystem protection.
