Building a Healthier Society Through Maternal and Postnatal Care: Hyderabad’s Initiative

A healthy society can only be built when pregnant and postnatal women receive proper nutrition and care, said Dr. J. Venkati, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of Hyderabad, while addressing healthcare workers at an awareness session on maternal and child health. The program, held on Friday at the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Musheerabad, was organized by the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Midtown in observance of Maternal and Child Health Month.

The event aimed to educate frontline healthcare workers—especially Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs)—on the importance of maternal wellness during and after pregnancy. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Venkati emphasized the need for vigilant postnatal care and encouraged medical staff to provide clear guidance to new mothers regarding precautions during the postpartum period. He also called for increased efforts to promote institutional deliveries at government hospitals, underlining the crucial role healthcare workers play in this mission.

The session was marked by the presence of several distinguished guests, including: Dr. P. Jayamalini, Deputy DMHO Dr. Padmaja, SPHI, Amberpet Cluster Dr. Manoj Reddy, Medical Officer, Musheerabad UPHC Dr. Dhanashree Naidu, Dr. Jayashree, Dr. Vyjayanthi Koratkar, and Dr. Mumtaz Representing the Rotary Club, Ms. Hajira, President, and Mr. Chandrasekhar, Secretary, took part in the session alongside active members and supporters. Dr. Sharad Koratkar and Ms. Seema Kumar were also present, supporting the interactive engagement with healthcare workers and promoting knowledge-sharing on maternal and child health practices.

The event concluded with a collaborative commitment to strengthen community health outreach and support frontline medical workers in delivering comprehensive maternal care, especially during the postnatal period.
