Indian Railways Launches CHIRAG Centre in Hyderabad for AI-Based HR Governance

Indian Railways has launched the CHIRAG Centre in Hyderabad as part of its major push toward digital governance and smart workforce management. The Centre for HR Information Systems, Research and Analytics in Governance (CHIRAG) aims to modernize railway human resource administration through artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and digital HR systems.

The centre, inaugurated at Moula-Ali in Hyderabad, will serve as a dedicated national hub for strengthening Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS), workforce analytics, digital training, and policy research across Indian Railways. Officials said the project is expected to become fully operational by May 2028.

CHIRAG has been designed to improve employee management in one of the world’s largest workforces by introducing technology-driven governance tools. The centre will focus on AI applications, machine learning systems, workforce forecasting, skill-gap analysis, and predictive HR planning to enhance administrative efficiency.

The initiative will also support role-based HR training programs, create HRMS master trainers, and improve employee data governance across railway zones and divisions. By integrating advanced analytics into workforce management, Indian Railways aims to shift from traditional HR administration to a more data-driven and predictive governance model.

The launch of CHIRAG reflects the broader modernization strategy of Indian Railways, where digital transformation, smart governance, and technology integration are becoming central to operational reforms and public service delivery.
