Hyderabad, January 27, 2025 – The Jana Telangana Rights Society, led by State President Vaddam Shyam, has submitted an official request to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The petition, seeks comprehensive details regarding several municipal activities and the GHMC’s administrative processes.
In the letter directed to the GHMC Commissioner, Shyam has requested transparency on issues such as the completion of ongoing projects, financial allocations, and reports on municipal services. He emphasized the importance of providing public access to such information to ensure accountability within the corporation.
The RTI request comes in the wake of the society’s continued advocacy for improved civic governance and public participation in Hyderabad’s development. The society has been active in raising concerns about how municipal projects are managed and whether proper procedures are being followed in the allocation and execution of works.
This request is a follow-up to a similar submission made by the society in October 2024, for which the GHMC had provided information as per the requirements of the RTI Act. With this new petition, the society hopes to receive further details to enhance public awareness and civic engagement in Hyderabad’s governance.
Under the RTI Act of 2005, the GHMC is required to respond within a stipulated time frame, ensuring that citizens have access to essential information about governmental activities. The society’s efforts aim to empower the people of Hyderabad with the knowledge needed to hold public authorities accountable for their actions.
Vaddam Shyam’s continued advocacy for transparency aligns with the broader mission of the Jana Telangana Rights Society to promote citizen participation and oversight in municipal and governmental operations.
