The Government of Kerala has announced the 2023 State Kathakali Awards, Pallavur Appu Marar Vadya Puraskaram, and Keraleeya Nritta-Natya Puraskaram, recognizing exceptional contributions to the state’s rich classical performing arts.
Awardees include Kuroor Vasudevan Namboothiri (Chenda) and Kalamandalam Sankara Warrier (Maddalam) for the State Kathakali Award, Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar for the Vadya Puraskaram, and Kalamandalam P.N. Girijadevi for her excellence in Koodiyattam under the Nritta-Natya Puraskaram.
These awards, instituted by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, reflect Kerala’s enduring commitment to cultural preservation, honouring senior artists and inspiring the next generation to uphold the legacy of Kathakali, percussion, and classical theatre traditions.
