Mumbai International Film Festival 2026 Begins, Showcasing Global Documentary and AI Cinema

The 19th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026 commenced on June 15 in Mumbai, bringing together filmmakers, artists, industry experts, and cinema enthusiasts from across the world. Organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, MIFF is one of Asia’s most prestigious festivals dedicated to non-feature cinema.

The festival serves as a global platform for documentary filmmakers, animators, short fiction creators, and emerging storytellers, showcasing diverse narratives that address social, cultural, environmental, and technological themes. Over the years, MIFF has played a crucial role in promoting independent and innovative filmmaking.

A key highlight of MIFF 2026 is its focus on technological innovation in cinema, including the screening of AI-generated films. The inclusion of artificial intelligence-based storytelling reflects the growing influence of emerging technologies on filmmaking, content creation, and visual storytelling.

The inaugural ceremony at Ravindra Natya Mandir witnessed the presence of several distinguished personalities, including Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan, filmmaker Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, director Ashutosh Gowariker, actor Jaideep Ahlawat, and other prominent figures from the film industry.

Through workshops, screenings, discussions, and networking opportunities, MIFF 2026 aims to foster creative collaboration and celebrate excellence in non-feature cinema. The festival continues to strengthen India’s position as a vibrant hub for documentary, animation, and short-film production while promoting cultural exchange through the art of storytelling.
