Namo Bharat: India’s Fastest Train at 160 km/h Transforms Delhi–Meerut Travel

India has officially entered a new era of rapid regional transit with Namo Bharat, the nation’s fastest train, running at 160 km/h on the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). This high-speed service connects Delhi and Meerut in under 60 minutes, revolutionizing daily commuting in northern India.

Unlike conventional trains, Namo Bharat operates on dedicated high-speed corridors with advanced safety systems like Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Control (ATC). The 82.15 km corridor, with 16 stations, will eventually stretch from Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi) to Modipuram (Meerut). Currently, the operational 55-km stretch already showcases its efficiency with 36 six-car trainsets running every 15 minutes.

Designed in Hyderabad and manufactured at Alstom’s Savli plant in Gujarat, the train highlights India’s growing domestic rail manufacturing strength. It also integrates with the Meerut Metro, offering seamless connectivity between local and regional travel.

Launched in October 2023, Namo Bharat has already served over 1.5 crore riders, bridging the gap between long-distance trains and metro systems. Backed by a partnership between the Centre and state governments of Delhi, UP, Haryana, and Rajasthan, it is the first dedicated RRTS in India, paving the way for future corridors like Delhi–Panipat and Delhi–Alwar.

With its speed, efficiency, and seamless integration, Namo Bharat stands as a symbol of India’s modern transit future.
