Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced an ambitious plan to restore the glory of Osmania University (OU), pledging to develop it on par with the world’s top institutions like Stanford and Oxford.
Speaking at the inauguration of new hostel buildings and foundation-laying ceremonies on campus, CM Reddy called OU the “soul of Telangana,” highlighting its historic role in the state’s movements and intellectual legacy.
The government has set up an Engineers Committee to draft development plans, with the CM promising to sanction funds soon. He emphasized that OU should stand as a “role model and witness to history,” producing intellectual wealth and nurturing youth, as 60% of India’s population is under 35.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, CM Reddy accused them of spreading misinformation and attempting to weaken the university during the previous regime. He assured students that his government remains accessible and committed to addressing their grievances.
Reddy also voiced concern over the drug menace among youth, urging collective efforts to safeguard the future generation.
From producing leaders like PV Narasimha Rao, S. Jaipal Reddy, and Shivraj Patil to playing a central role in the Telangana movement, Osmania University remains a pillar of Telangana’s identity. The government now aims to revive its historic prominence as a premier academic and intellectual hub.
