R. Krishnaiah Slams TGPSC Over Group-1 Exams, Alleges Bias Against BCs and Minorities

R. Krishnaiah Slams TGPSC, Says Group-1 Exams Betrayed BCs, Targeted Telugu Medium and Muslim Aspirants
By Soniya Shaik
National Backward Classes Welfare Association President and Rajya Sabha MP R. Krishnaiah has raised serious objections over alleged large-scale irregularities in the Telangana Group-1 recruitment examinations. He said the system was riddled with discrepancies that unfairly hurt backward class, Muslim, and Telugu medium aspirants. Highlighting several inconsistencies in evaluation and allocation of exam centres, he demanded a judicial inquiry and strict accountability from the recruitment authorities.
Krishnaiah pointed out that Telugu medium candidates scored disproportionately lower compared to English medium students due to differences in evaluation. He also noted that Muslim aspirants repeatedly failed at the preliminary stage despite having strong academic backgrounds, reflecting a pattern of discrimination. He added that even women candidates faced hardships as only two women’s colleges were allotted as exam centres, forcing many to write in male-dominated centres.
According to the association, while 12,381 engineering graduates appeared, only 506 were shortlisted; in another instance, 8,694 candidates wrote the test, but only 56 qualified. “Such figures clearly show the injustice being done to Telugu and BC candidates,” Krishnaiah remarked.
Echoing his concerns, Telangana BC Unemployed JAC Chairman Neelam Venkatesh held a meeting with aspirants and activists, stressing that BC and minority candidates have been denied fair chances in recruitment. He warned that the JAC would intensify its agitation if the government and Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) failed to take corrective measures immediately.
Expressing solidarity, Shashank Pasupuleti, Telangana BC Youth Vice President, said the examination system must guarantee equal opportunity for all communities. He observed that systemic flaws were causing thousands of BC youth to lose opportunities in government jobs. “Unless accountability is fixed and transparency ensured, the trust of aspirants in recruitment exams will collapse,” he noted.
The leaders jointly demanded that the government intervene without delay and restore fairness in Telangana’s competitive recruitment process.
