The 5th Meeting of the Central Advisory Council (CAC) under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA) was held in New Delhi, marking eight years of RERA’s implementation. A key highlight was the launch of the Unified RERA Portal by the Union Housing & Urban Affairs Minister to strengthen transparency and streamline real estate regulation across India.

RERA’s Journey So Far

Since 2016, RERA has transformed the real estate sector by protecting homebuyers and promoting accountability. Currently, 35 States/UTs have set up regulatory authorities, with over 1.5 lakh projects and 1 lakh agents registered. Nearly 1.5 lakh complaints have been resolved, showcasing active grievance redressal.

Unified RERA Portal

The new platform (rera.mohua.gov.in) integrates State RERA data into a national database of projects, helping buyers make informed choices and enabling AI-driven monitoring to reduce project delays and stalled developments.

Tackling Stalled Projects

The Council discussed stalled projects and reviewed recommendations from the Amitabh Kant committee. Uttar Pradesh’s successful model was highlighted, and other States were urged to adopt similar measures. Proposed SoPs aim to revive projects and restore buyer-developer trust.

Next Steps

The Council stressed faster registration, uniform rules across States, and improved compliance. Future reforms will focus on strengthening transparency, accountability, and sector growth through policy innovation and stakeholder consultations.
