Telangana High Court Cancels TGPSC Group-1 Mains Results, Orders Fresh Re-Evaluation

Hyderabad, September 2025: In a major setback for the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC), the Telangana High Court has struck down the Group-1 Mains results conducted in October 2024, citing serious irregularities and illegalities in the evaluation process. The decision has put on hold appointments to 563 high-level government posts, sending shockwaves across the state’s competitive exam aspirants.

Court’s Observation: “Glaring Lapses in Evaluation”

Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, while delivering the verdict, stated that the evaluation lacked transparency, fairness, and uniformity. The court noted several “glaring lapses” in the evaluation of answer scripts and strongly criticized the commission for deviating from established standards.

The court directed the TGPSC to re-evaluate all answer scripts within eight months, applying strict norms as laid down in the landmark Sanjay vs Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission case.

Warning of Full Re-Exam

Justice Rao further warned that if the re-evaluation process revealed continued irregularities or violation of principles of natural justice, the court would be compelled to order a fresh Group-1 Mains examination.

This directive aims to restore credibility and fairness in one of the state’s most prestigious competitive exams, which recruits candidates for top administrative roles.

Background of the Case

  • The Group-1 Mains exam was conducted in October 2024, with results declared earlier in 2025.
  • Soon after, multiple petitions were filed by aggrieved aspirants alleging arbitrary evaluation, lack of transparency, and negligence by TGPSC.
  • Petitioners highlighted discrepancies such as uneven marking standards and absence of proper guidelines for evaluators.

The High Court, after examining the evidence, concluded that the process was not conducted in line with constitutional fairness, leading to the annulment of the declared results.

Impact on Aspirants and Vacancies

The cancellation has directly affected hundreds of aspirants who had cleared the Mains and were preparing for the final interviews. With 563 vacancies now kept in abeyance, the state’s recruitment process faces further delays.

While many candidates welcomed the court’s intervention as a step towards fairness, others expressed concern about the extended timeline, with careers and future planning now left uncertain.

Way Forward

  • Re-evaluation timeline: All answer sheets must be rechecked and results published within eight months.
  • Strict compliance: Evaluation to follow norms of objectivity, consistency, and accountability.
  • Possibility of re-exam: If irregularities persist, the High Court may order a complete re-exam of Group-1 Mains.

The High Court’s order has highlighted the urgent need for transparency and accountability in recruitment processes. While it delays the postings, the move is seen as essential to uphold the trust of aspirants in Telangana’s public service examinations.
