India and Brazil Strengthen Defence Ties with Talks on Akash Missile Supply

India and Brazil have taken a major step toward deepening their defence partnership following high-level meetings in New Delhi on 15 October 2025. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Brazilian Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and Defence Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho to discuss expanding military cooperation, including the potential supply of India’s Akash missile system to Brazil.

Both sides explored avenues for co-development and co-production of defence technologies, aiming to strengthen indigenous capabilities and promote technology transfer. The collaboration aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and Brazil’s defence modernisation goals.

The Akash missile, a medium-range surface-to-air system developed by India, can target multiple aerial threats and is recognised for its reliability and cost efficiency. Supplying it to Brazil would mark a significant boost to India’s defence exports and enhance Brazil’s air defence strength.

The two nations also agreed to increase military-to-military exchanges, including joint exercises and training programmes, fostering interoperability and strategic trust. The growing India-Brazil cooperation highlights South-South collaboration and reflects an evolving global defence landscape beyond traditional power blocs.
