3 Major Financial Rule Changes from July 2026: ITR Deadline, Passport Fee Hike & Free Aadhaar Email Update

Several important financial and administrative rule changes have come into effect from July 2026, impacting taxpayers, passport applicants, and Aadhaar card holders across India. These changes include revised Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadlines, higher passport application fees, and free Aadhaar email updates through the official mobile app.

The Income Tax Department has set 31 July 2026 as the last date for filing ITRs for most salaried individuals and pensioners for FY 2025–26 (AY 2026–27), while taxpayers filing ITR-3 and ITR-4 have time until 31 August 2026. Those who miss the deadline can submit a belated return by 31 December 2026, subject to late filing fees.

The Ministry of External Affairs has also revised passport charges from 1 July 2026, marking the first major fee revision in nearly 14 years. The fee for a 36-page passport has increased to ₹2,500, while a 60-page passport now costs ₹3,500. Tatkaal passport fees have also been revised.

Meanwhile, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived the ₹75 fee for updating the registered email address through the official Aadhaar mobile app. This free online facility will remain available until 31 December 2026, though offline updates at Aadhaar Seva Kendras will continue to attract the prescribed service charges.

These changes aim to improve public services, strengthen digital governance, and encourage timely compliance with tax and identity-related requirements.
