Rare Blue Pinkgill and Shuttlecock Mushrooms Spotted in Telangana Forests

The Kagaznagar forest division in Telangana’s Komaram Bheem Asifabad district has reported rare fungal sightings, including the striking Blue Pinkgill mushroom (Entoloma hochstetteri), a species native to New Zealand, known for its vivid blue colour from rare azulene pigments. In the Kawal Tiger Reserve, researchers also documented the shuttlecock mushroom (Clathrus delicatus) for the first time in the Eastern Ghats, expanding its known range beyond the Western Ghats.

These findings highlight Telangana’s exceptional fungal biodiversity, supported by monsoon conditions that promote fungal growth. Scientists say such discoveries are vital for understanding ecosystem health and underscore the importance of forest conservation.
