In a major move to enhance the voting experience, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a new design for Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) ballot papers. This update aims to improve visibility, readability, and uniformity for voters across the country.
This initiative is part of 28 reforms launched by the ECI over the past six months to make elections more user-friendly and transparent.
Key Features of the New Design
- Coloured Candidate Photos for easy visual identification
- Larger Photo Space with faces covering three-fourths of the photo area
- Uniform Fonts and Style for all candidate names, including the NOTA (None of the Above) option
- Maximum 15 Candidates per Sheet for clarity
- NOTA placed last after all candidate names
Implementation Plan
The ECI has directed all State and Union Territory Chief Electoral Officers to adopt the new format.
The first rollout will take place in the upcoming Bihar elections (2025), followed by nationwide implementation in future polls.
