India Strengthens Global Standing in Livestock Production: Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2025

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, along with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, has released the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2025, showcasing India’s continued rise as a global powerhouse in livestock production. The report highlights the sector’s critical role in food security, employment generation, and rural economic development.

Milk Production – India Remains No. 1 Globally
India retained its position as the world’s largest milk producer with an output of 247.87 million tonnes in 2024–25, reflecting 3.58% growth over the previous year. Per capita milk availability increased to 485 grams per day. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra together contributed over 54% of total production.

Egg Production – Steady Expansion
Ranking second globally, India produced 149.11 billion eggs, registering a 4.44% rise. Per capita availability rose to 106 eggs per year. Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, and Karnataka accounted for a major share of 64.37%.

Meat Production – Poultry Leads Output
India stood as the 4th largest meat producer, recording 10.50 million tonnes of production in 2024–25. Poultry contributed nearly half of the total meat output. Leading states include West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

Wool Production – Rajasthan on Top
Wool output reached 34.57 million kg, marking 2.63% growth. Rajasthan remained the top contributor with 47.85% share, followed by Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh.
