Kuwait has inaugurated its first-ever geological park, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to advance environmental education, scientific research and eco-tourism. The new GeoPark showcases Kuwait’s diverse natural landscapes, rare geological formations and cultural heritage while aligning with the nation’s broader vision for sustainable development and economic diversification.
Designed as an accessible open-air scientific hub, the park supports Kuwait’s long-term strategy to promote responsible tourism and expand learning opportunities. Its proximity to Kuwait City allows schools, universities and research institutions to engage directly with the geological evolution of the region.
The GeoPark features curated walking trails, interpretive panels and interactive exhibits explaining rock layers, mineral types and fossil discoveries. A prominent geological timeline wall offers visitors a comprehensive view of Kuwait’s formation history. Hands-on spaces, including a mineral garden, guided educational walks and earth-science workshops, further enhance public engagement.
Scientifically and historically significant, the park protects unique sand injectite formations that resemble Martian terrains, as well as archaeological sites linked to the ancient Ubaid civilisation. It also includes the site of Kuwait’s first-ever oil exploration well, drilled in 1936, symbolising the country’s transformation into a global petroleum hub.
