Community-led initiative promotes preventive healthcare on World Health Day

Hyderabad:

Residents and walkers of Hyderguda, Upparpally and Attapur (Rajendra Nagar Circle) came together on World Health Day to conduct a community walk and take a pledge on preventive health, in line with the theme “Together for health. Stand with science.”

The programme, held at Pedda Tallakunta Park, Hyderguda saw participation from local community members (Nalling Ramesh, Mondra Komraiah, K. Harinath, Sahadeva Reddy, Barla Jangaiah), a healthcare expert Dr. Rani Koppula (gynaecologist), and Radhakanth Das (temple leader) – a representative from ISKCON Attapur.

The initiative highlighted the importance of a citizen-led effort to promote preventing lifestyle diseases. The effort reflects a growing shift towards grassroots participation in public health, marking World Health Day by launching a monthly walk initiative as S.P.A.R.K Walkathon by Ahamsutra Media Lab.

Though the planned NCD screening and sanitation drive was postponed due to (99days Praja Palana Programs) officials’ (Program officer and DMHO Ranga Reddy, AMHO and Deputy Commissioner GHMC Rajendra Nagar Circle) unavailability. Myadam Madhusudhan (senior journalist) and Ajit Rachoori said Bharat/India being called the diabetes capital of the world is not a badge of honour but a wake-up call, the initiative would help participants committed to continuing monthly walkathons and organising regular health screenings in the future as a sustained community model.
