The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched the Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme, popularly named “Guru Dakshina” by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to provide cashless healthcare to teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors, and their eligible family members. The state will spend around ₹447 crore annually to cover insurance premiums, ensuring beneficiaries receive quality medical treatment without bearing hospitalization expenses.
Implemented through the State Agency for Comprehensive Health and Integrated Services (SACHIS), the scheme offers cashless treatment at government and empanelled private hospitals, covering over 1,900 treatment packages for serious illnesses such as cancer, heart diseases, kidney ailments, and major surgeries. Around 10 lakh teachers and contractual education staff across Uttar Pradesh are expected to benefit from the initiative, though outpatient (OPD) services are not included.
Alongside the health scheme, the state has signed an MoU with the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide enhanced social security benefits, including life insurance, personal accident cover, disability insurance, and financial assistance for employees’ families. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare by continuing the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, under which ₹1,200 per student is transferred annually to parents for uniforms, school bags, shoes, sweaters, and stationery.
The Guru Dakshina Scheme is a significant welfare initiative aimed at strengthening the social security of teachers, reducing their healthcare burden, and enabling them to focus on delivering quality education while ensuring financial protection for their families.
