Hyderabad: The strayed male leopard that entered Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) lands has been finally trapped last night on Thursday in one of the cages that were set up by the Telangana Forest Department.
The leopard had strayed into the airport lands on Sunday and caused some panic in the locals. The surveillance cameras of RGIA also captured images of the leopard‘s movement.
Immediately, the forest department was alerted and accordingly the measures were intensified by the officials. In addition to the existing two cages, three more cages were set up by the officials. One goat was put in each of the five cages as a bait for the leopard.
On Thursday late night, the efforts of forest department officials had finally paid off as the leopard got trapped in one of the cages.
“We will first check the leopard’s health condition. A team from Zoo Park will examine its health and extend treatment if required,” said Rangareddy DFO Sudhakar Reddy.
After ascertaining the leopard’s health condition and running all the required medical tests on the animal, the higher officials will discuss as to which place it should be released. It could be either Amrabad or Kawal Tiger Reserves, informed sources.
The big cat was first noticed a few days back by workers at the Hyderabad Airport. While there was some commotion due to the incident, none of the workers were attacked or injured. The leopards being spotted in that area is a common occurrence during the summer season.
