HYDRAA Commissioner Flags Major Construction Violations at Dr Shankar’s Hospital in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, May 6 — HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath expressed serious concern over multiple construction violations at Dr Shankar’s Hospital near RTC Crossroads, following a site inspection prompted by a public complaint received via the Prajavani platform.
During the visit on Friday, Commissioner Ranganath was visibly disturbed by the extent of the violations. “How can there be so many violations in one building? And that too in a hospital where safety should be a top priority,” he remarked during the inspection.
The hospital was found to have constructed two additional floors and a cellar, exceeding the permitted four-storey limit. Furthermore, the building had encroached onto the adjacent road, reducing the road width to just 10 feet on one side and 15 feet on the other—posing a serious threat to public safety, particularly in the densely populated residential area.
Ranganath questioned hospital owner Dr Shankar about the lack of an occupancy certificate and sought clarification on how the hospital obtained a licence despite these lapses. He instructed officials to review all related building permissions and take immediate corrective action.
GHMC Secunderabad Zonal Chief Planner Srinivas was directed to submit a detailed report on the violations. The inspection team also included HYDRAA Fire Department Additional Director Papayya, DFO Yagna Narayana, and other senior officials.
The incident has raised alarms about regulatory oversights and the safety of medical facilities operating without adherence to urban development norms.
