Akashvani Launches Swar Prerna Veethika to Celebrate 90 Years of India’s Musical Heritage

By Soniya:

As part of its 90th anniversary celebrations, Akashvani has inaugurated Swar Prerna Veethika, a permanent photo gallery dedicated to India’s legendary musicians at the Akashvani Rang Bhavan Auditorium, New Delhi. The gallery was inaugurated by Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and serves as a tribute to artists who have made immense contributions to India’s rich musical heritage through public broadcasting.

The first phase of the gallery features portraits of 20 iconic musicians, including Bharat Ratna awardees such as M.S. Subbulakshmi, Ravi Shankar, Lata Mangeshkar, Bismillah Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, and Bhupen Hazarika, along with several Padma Vibhushan and Padma award recipients. The initiative aims to preserve their legacy while inspiring future generations of musicians, researchers, and music lovers.

Launched ahead of the centenary of radio broadcasting in India in 2027, Swar Prerna Veethika highlights Akashvani’s enduring role in promoting classical, folk, devotional, and regional music for nearly nine decades. Alongside preserving its cultural legacy, Akashvani is also expanding its digital presence through platforms such as Raagam, Aaradhana, the News-on-Air App, YouTube, and the WAVES OTT Platform, ensuring India’s musical traditions continue to reach audiences across generations.
