The BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting officially began on 14 May 2026 in New Delhi, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chairing the two-day diplomatic gathering. The meeting marks an important step as India prepares to assume the BRICS Chairmanship in 2026.
Foreign ministers, senior delegates, and representatives from BRICS member and partner countries are participating in the discussions, which focus on major global and regional issues. Delegates are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the event.
The first day of the meeting is centred around global geopolitical developments, regional security concerns, economic cooperation, and multilateral engagement. Leaders are expected to discuss shared international challenges, including global instability, trade dynamics, energy security, and emerging geopolitical tensions.
On the second day, discussions will move toward the theme “BRICS@20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” highlighting the grouping’s evolution as it approaches its 20-year milestone.
Key focus areas include economic resilience, sustainable development, technology cooperation, innovation-driven growth, and reforms in multilateral institutions. The meeting also reflects the growing importance of BRICS in shaping discussions around the Global South and a more balanced international order.
India’s upcoming BRICS Chairmanship in 2026 is expected to further strengthen the country’s diplomatic role in global economic and strategic cooperation.
