BRICS foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi on May 15, 2026, strongly reaffirmed support for an independent and viable State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The discussions highlighted the importance of the two-state solution under international law amid continuing tensions in West Asia.
During the meeting, BRICS leaders described the Gaza Strip as part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. The ministers also demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of hostages, and uninterrupted humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by the conflict.
The grouping further supported full United Nations membership for Palestine and emphasized the need for peaceful diplomatic efforts to restore stability in the region. However, despite broad consensus on Palestinian statehood, BRICS members could not release a joint declaration because of differing views on certain aspects of the wider West Asia conflict.
The meeting marked another important diplomatic moment as BRICS continues to expand its role in global geopolitical and humanitarian discussions.
