India Launches C-FLOOD to Strengthen Flood Forecasting and Disaster Preparedness

In a major stride toward climate resilience, Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri C. R. Patil launched C-FLOOD on July 2, 2025, a Unified Inundation Forecasting System developed by C-DAC, CWC, and NRSC. This web-based platform delivers two-day advance flood forecasts at the village level, enhancing India’s preparedness against flood disasters.

Part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), C-FLOOD uses advanced 2-D hydrodynamic modelling and HPC simulations to generate accurate flood predictions. It currently covers the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins, with plans for expansion.

The platform aims to support national and state disaster management agencies by providing real-time inundation maps, early warnings, and decision-support tools for evacuation planning and infrastructure safety.

The launch marks a critical step in modernizing India’s disaster response using cutting-edge technology and inter-agency collaboration.
