Contract Assistant Professors Demand Immediate Resolution of Long-Standing Issues – Indefinite Strike Begins
An indefinite strike has been launched by contract assistant professors across state universities demanding immediate resolution of their long-pending issues. On Monday, assistant professors staged a protest at the entrance of JNTU Sultanpur under the banner of the university’s administrative body. Holding placards, they raised their voices for justice and job security.
According to the protesting educators, over 1,270 contract assistant professors are currently teaching across 12 government universities in the state. They have been protesting for over a month, and the strike has been ongoing for the last three days, severely affecting regular classes and causing inconvenience to thousands of students.
The protestors pointed out that successive governments have failed to fill vacant teaching positions in universities, forcing contract professors to carry the academic load for more than a decade. Despite working without job security or benefits, these professors have continued to shape students’ futures selflessly.
They demanded that the state government initiate talks with the protesting professors, provide job regularization, and ensure job security. They also stressed the need to resolve the issue urgently to resume academic activities and avoid further disruption to students’ education.
