India Elected Co-Chair of UN-GGIM Asia-Pacific

In a major recognition of India’s leadership in geospatial technology, India has been elected as the Co-Chair of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP) for a three-year term (2025–2028). The appointment strengthens India’s role in shaping global geospatial policies and advancing regional cooperation in data-driven governance.

UN-GGIM-AP, a regional arm of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management, brings together 56 countries to promote the use of geospatial data for decision-making, disaster management, and sustainable development.

India’s election underscores its growing influence in geospatial governance, data sharing, and satellite mapping, aligning with domestic initiatives like Digital India, Smart Cities Mission, and PM Gati Shakti. As Co-Chair, India will help steer regional collaboration, capacity-building, and policy alignment to harness the power of geospatial information for development and resilience.
