The Central Health Ministry has integrated the Rare Donor Registry (RDRI) with the e-Rakt Kosh platform to improve access to rare blood types like Bombay, Rh-null, and P-null.
Developed by ICMR-NIIH with 4,000+ screened donors, the registry helps patients with conditions like thalassemia and sickle cell anemia
e-Rakt Kosh, under the National Health Mission, provides real-time blood availability and donation info across India. This integration will reduce search time, cost, and improve emergency transfusion safety.
ICMR has also launched affordable testing kits for blood disorders, cutting test costs from ₹350 to under ₹50, potentially saving the government ₹1,857 crore.
These advancements will boost rare blood diagnostics even at PHC level, benefiting over 1.4 lakh hemophilia patients in India.
