India has secured the 13th position in the QS World Future Skills Index 2027, reflecting its growing preparedness for an AI-driven and technology-focused future. Released by global higher education analytics firm QS, the index evaluates how effectively countries are developing talent, adapting education systems, and preparing their economies for emerging technologies.

India achieved an overall score of 89.4 out of 100 and was recognized as one of the strongest-performing lower-middle-income economies. The report highlighted India’s large digital workforce, expanding startup ecosystem, demographic advantage, and increasing adoption of artificial intelligence as key strengths.

Among the four pillars of the index, India performed exceptionally well in the “Future of Work” category, ranking 5th globally, showcasing strong readiness for AI, digital transformation, and emerging industries. The country also ranked 14th in Economic Transformation, demonstrating its potential to convert technological advancements into economic growth.

However, challenges remain in Skills Alignment (18th) and Academic Readiness (22nd), indicating the need for closer coordination between educational institutions and evolving industry requirements.

The United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom secured the top three positions globally. India’s ranking underscores its rising role in the global digital economy and its potential to become a major hub for future-ready talent and AI-led innovation.
