India Secures Continued EU Market Access for Aquaculture, Honey and Eggs Exports Beyond 2026

By Soniya:

India has secured continued access to the European Union (EU) market for exports of aquaculture products, honey, eggs, and animal casings beyond September 2026, providing a major boost to the country’s agricultural and fisheries sectors. The decision comes after the EU updated its import regulations to strengthen food safety standards and address concerns related to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Under the revised EU framework, India has been included in the list of authorized exporting countries, ensuring uninterrupted trade in these products with one of the world’s largest and most valuable markets. The approval reflects confidence in India’s food safety, inspection, and certification systems.

The development is particularly significant for India’s fisheries industry, as exports of fish and fishery products to the EU are valued at approximately USD 1.59 billion. Continued market access will help safeguard export earnings, support millions of livelihoods linked to the fisheries value chain, and create opportunities for further growth in European markets.

To maintain compliance with EU standards, India will continue to work closely with industry stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and export certification agencies. Key institutions such as the Export Inspection Council (EIC) and the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) will play an important role in ensuring quality control and adherence to international regulations.

The decision strengthens India’s trade ties with the European Union and reinforces the country’s position as a reliable supplier of high-quality agricultural and marine products in global markets.
