India Successfully Tests Astra Missile & Unveils Mounted Gun System in Major Defence Boost

India has taken a major step forward in defence self-reliance with two key achievements by DRDO and the Indian Air Force. On July 11, 2025, the Astra Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), featuring an indigenous Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, was successfully test-fired from a Su-30 Mk-I fighter jet off Odisha’s coast. The missile hit its targets with pinpoint accuracy, showcasing India’s growing air combat capability.

In parallel, DRDO unveiled the 155mm/52 calibre Mounted Gun System (MGS) — a fully indigenous, highly mobile artillery gun capable of firing and relocating within two minutes, improving battlefield efficiency.

Both developments reflect India’s Make in India push and Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, reducing import dependency and boosting military readiness.
