Indian Railways Unveils New 18-Star Logo After Creation of South Coast Railway Zone

By Soniya:

Indian Railways has introduced a redesigned 18-star logo following the formation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR), which officially became India’s 18th railway zone on June 1, 2026. The updated logo symbolizes the expansion of the railway network’s administrative structure and reflects the addition of a new zone after several years.

Headquartered in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the South Coast Railway Zone has been created by reorganizing portions of the existing East Coast Railway (ECoR) and South Central Railway (SCR). The new zone includes the Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam divisions, aiming to improve operational efficiency, railway administration, and connectivity across southern India.

The establishment of SCoR fulfills a long-standing demand from Andhra Pradesh and is expected to enhance passenger services, freight movement, infrastructure development, and port connectivity, particularly around Visakhapatnam, one of India’s major port cities.

The headquarters of the new zone is being developed at Mudasarlova in Visakhapatnam on a 52.2-acre site with an estimated cost of ₹183.58 crore. The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2025.

With the launch of the South Coast Railway Zone and the new 18-star logo, Indian Railways aims to strengthen regional coordination, improve service delivery, and support economic growth through better rail infrastructure and administration.
