Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi to Visit India for 16th India-Japan Annual Summit from July 1–3

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake her first official visit to India from 1–3 July 2026 to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit marks an important milestone in strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Tokyo for the 15th Annual Summit in August 2025.

During the summit, both leaders are expected to review progress in bilateral cooperation and discuss expanding collaboration in key areas, including defence and security, economic partnership, infrastructure development, technology and innovation, clean energy, and climate action. Discussions are also likely to focus on emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, renewable energy, supply chain resilience, and digital technologies.

India and Japan share a strong strategic relationship based on common democratic values and a shared vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). Japan is among India’s largest foreign investors and a key partner in major infrastructure projects such as the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor and the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

The summit is expected to further deepen cooperation on regional and global issues, including Indo-Pacific security, QUAD collaboration, G20 priorities, and reforms of multilateral institutions, while reinforcing the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.
