Yoga Mahotsav 2026 will be आयोजित at the iconic Khajuraho Group of Monuments in Madhya Pradesh as India begins the 25-day countdown to the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026. The event is being organized by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under the Ministry of Ayush.
Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its historic temple architecture and spiritual significance, was chosen to symbolically connect India’s ancient cultural heritage with its global wellness mission. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav stated that the venue reflects the harmony between India’s civilizational traditions and modern holistic health practices.
Yoga Mahotsav serves as a major outreach initiative ahead of the International Day of Yoga, observed globally every year on June 21. The event aims to spread awareness about yoga, encourage mass participation, and promote physical and mental well-being.
As part of preparations for IDY 2026, the Ministry of Ayush has launched a nationwide 100-day campaign involving yoga demonstrations, public awareness programs, and institutional collaborations across India. The “Yoga 365 Days” initiative is also being implemented to promote year-round yoga participation through free training programs and community engagement activities.
The International Day of Yoga was adopted by the United Nations in 2014 following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since then, yoga has emerged as an important pillar of India’s cultural diplomacy and global wellness outreach.
