The Punjab government has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology Ropar to develop an advanced Artificial Intelligence–based system for real-time crime tracking and analysis. The initiative aims to modernise policing by converting scattered and fragmented data into actionable intelligence, strengthening the state’s anti-crime and anti-drug campaigns.
Under this collaboration, IIT Ropar will design an AI-driven framework featuring data analytics, voice recognition and dashboard-based monitoring. The system will integrate structured records with unstructured data such as handwritten notes and scanned documents, creating a unified digital database for faster investigations.
The project will support campaigns like Gangstran Te Vaar and Yudh Nashiyan Virudh by enabling predictive crime analysis and real-time monitoring of criminal networks. Coordinated through the Data Intelligence and Technical Support Unit (DITSU), the initiative marks a major step towards intelligence-led policing, improved detection rates and enhanced public safety across Punjab.
