The QS World University Rankings 2027 were released on 18 June 2026, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) once again securing the top position globally. MIT achieved a perfect overall score of 100 and extended its remarkable streak as the world’s highest-ranked university for the 15th consecutive year.
According to the latest rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Imperial College London and Stanford University shared the second position, while the University of Oxford and Harvard University ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The rankings evaluate universities based on factors such as academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, research impact, internationalization, employment outcomes, and sustainability.
The 2027 edition features more than 1,500 universities from 106 higher education systems worldwide. The United States leads with 184 ranked institutions, followed by the United Kingdom with 93 and Mainland China with 85 universities.
Among other notable performers, the University of Melbourne ranked 22nd globally and emerged as Australia’s top institution for both Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation indicators.
The QS World University Rankings are considered one of the most influential global assessments of higher education institutions, helping students, educators, and policymakers evaluate academic excellence and research performance across the world.
