Zubeen Garg: The Voice That Defined Assamese Music and Beyond

Zubeen Garg, the legendary Assamese singer, composer, and actor, left an indelible mark on Indian music. Born on 18 November 1972 in Tura, Meghalaya, Zubeen became a symbol of Assamese pride and artistic brilliance. Trained in classical and folk music, he began his journey with the Assamese album Anamika (1992), later conquering Bollywood with his chart-topping hit Ya Ali from Gangster (2006).

Over a career spanning more than three decades, he recorded over 38,000 songs in 40+ languages, blending emotion and versatility like few others could. Beyond music, Zubeen was also an actor, director, and humanitarian — known for his fearless voice and compassion for people.

He passed away tragically on 19 September 2025 in Singapore at age 52, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire millions. His music, especially Mayabini Raatir Bukut, remains the eternal heartbeat of Assam.
