Parliament Monsoon Session 2025: Dates, Structure, and Constitutional Mandates

The Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament for 2025 is scheduled to take place from July 21 to August 21. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the dates following the President’s approval. This session is crucial for discussing important national issues, key bills, and the Union budget.

The Indian Constitution mandates under Article 85 that there should not be a gap of more than six months between two parliamentary sessions. There are three main sessions held annually:

  1. Budget Session (February–May)
  2. Monsoon Session (July–September)
  3. Winter Session (November–December)                                                                                                                                                                                                  Key constitutional provisions include:
  • Article 87: The President addresses both Houses at the start of the first session each year.
  • Article 86: The President can send messages to either House.
  • Article 100: A minimum of one-tenth of members must be present to conduct business.
  • Prorogation ends a session but not the House itself, while Dissolution ends the term of the Lok Sabha.

These sessions are essential for legislation, policy-making, and holding the government accountable.
