Hyderabad Court Restrains Misuse of Actor Chiranjeevi’s Name and Image for Commercial Gains

HYDERABAD: A local court has issued an interim injunction preventing online garment outlets, digital media platforms, and YouTube channels from using the name, image, or voice of actor and former politician Konidela Chiranjeevi for commercial purposes. The ruling aims to safeguard the actor’s personality and publicity rights against unauthorised exploitation.

The City Civil Court Chief Judge, S. Sasidhar Reddy, passed the order in response to Chiranjeevi’s petition alleging that several online and retail entities had used his identity, titles such as “Mega Star” and “Chiru,” and likeness without consent, causing social, reputational, and financial harm.

The court’s order, dated September 26, 2025, restrains 34 respondents from using Chiranjeevi’s persona for profit and noted that such actions could cause irreparable damage to his reputation. The next hearing is scheduled for October 27, 2025.

This move follows a growing trend among Indian celebrities — including Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — who have approached courts to protect their personality rights in the digital age.
