Preetismita Bhoi Sets Asian and World Records, Wins Gold at Asian Youth Games 2025

Bahrain: Odisha’s rising weightlifting sensation Preetismita Bhoi has made India proud by clinching the gold medal in the 44 kg category at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025. The 16-year-old from Dhenkanal not only topped the podium but also set new Asian and World Youth records in the clean and jerk event.

Record-Breaking Performance

Preetismita lifted a combined total of 158 kg, including a record-breaking 92 kg clean and jerk, rewriting both Asian and World records. Her feat cements her status as one of the youngest and most promising lifters in international competition.

Training and Achievements

Training at the Weightlifting High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium, she has shown exceptional consistency. In 2024, she became the first Indian female lifter to win gold in the 40 kg category at the World Youth Championships in Peru, where she also set a world record.

National Recognition

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated her, stating, “Preetismita Bhoi from Dhenkanal makes India proud by winning gold and setting new Asian and World records at the 3rd Youth Asian Games in Bahrain.”
