The Government of India has announced the winners of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, celebrating the nation’s finest scientists, technologists, and innovators for their outstanding contributions across 13 scientific domains. The awards underscore India’s growing leadership in global science, technology, and innovation.
About the Awards
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is one of India’s highest recognitions in science and technology, conferred in four categories:
- Vigyan Ratna (VR): Lifetime achievement in science and technology.
- Vigyan Shri (VS): Distinguished contributions in scientific research.
- Vigyan Yuva–Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB): For scientists under 45 years.
- Vigyan Team (VT): For collaborative scientific achievements.
Awards are presented in diverse fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Environmental Science, Engineering, and Space Technology.

- Vigyan Ratna (VR): Jayant Vishnu Narlikar (Posthumously) – Physics
- Vigyan Shri (VS): Notable awardees include Gyanendra Pratap Singh (Agricultural Science), Pradeep Thalappil (Chemistry), Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit (Engineering), and Venkata Mohan (Environmental Science).
- Vigyan Yuva–SSB: Emerging scientists such as Dibyendu Das (Chemistry), Debarka Sengupta (Biological Sciences), Amit Kumar Agarwal (Physics), and Ankur Garg (Space Technology) were recognised.
- Vigyan Team (VT): Awarded to CSIR’s Aroma Mission for outstanding work in agricultural science.
Selection and Evaluation
Nominations were invited via the national portal between October and November 2024, and evaluated by a high-level committee chaired by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India. The awards are coordinated by the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar Secretariat.
