India is preparing to host its first-ever high-level conference exclusively dedicated to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), marking a major step towards strengthening the country’s internal security architecture. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on institutionalised coordination and strategic planning among India’s key security forces in response to evolving internal threats.
The landmark conference will be chaired by Narendra Modi, underscoring the importance accorded to internal security at the highest political level. Unlike existing forums such as the annual DGP/IG Conference, this meet will focus solely on CAPFs, providing them a dedicated platform for policy discussion, operational review, and strategic alignment.
The agenda is expected to cover a wide range of emerging security challenges, including insurgency, left-wing extremism, and cyber-enabled threats. With security risks becoming increasingly complex and interconnected, the conference aims to encourage joint planning and forward-looking strategies to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
Another core objective is to strengthen coordination between CAPFs, intelligence agencies, and state police forces. Inputs for the conference have been sought by the Intelligence Bureau, highlighting a push towards better intelligence sharing, improved communication channels, and more effective inter-agency cooperation under the broader framework of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Senior CAPF leadership and Indian Police Service officers are expected to participate, with a focus on producing actionable outcomes rather than symbolic discussions. If institutionalised as a regular mechanism, the conference could significantly contribute to building a more integrated, proactive, and resilient internal security system for India.
