Symbiosis Skills and Professional University has launched Asia’s first UNESCO Chair on Gender Inclusion and Skill Development, marking a significant step toward promoting women’s empowerment through education and skills training. The initiative was announced during an international conference held in collaboration with UNESCO.
The UNESCO Chair focuses on bridging gender gaps by equipping women, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, with skills in emerging industries. So far, SSPU has trained over 10,000 girls in future-ready sectors such as robotics, automation, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing—many of whom have secured job placements.
The initiative is led by Swati Mujumdar, who has developed an industry-linked training model aimed at improving employability and increasing women’s participation in high-growth sectors.
The launch was inaugurated by Jayant Chaudhary, highlighting the government’s support for skill development and gender inclusion. The programme aligns with global and national goals of building an inclusive workforce and strengthening women’s role in the future economy.
This initiative positions India as a leader in integrating education, skills, and gender equality on a global platform.
