National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has launched PRASHAST 2.0, an upgraded digital screening tool designed to identify disabilities and learning challenges among school children at an early stage. The initiative aims to strengthen inclusive education and ensure that every child receives timely educational support.
PRASHAST 2.0 (Pre-Assessment Holistic Screening Tool) enables teachers, school heads, and special educators to screen students for 21 types of disabilities recognized under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The platform is available in both mobile and web formats, making it accessible for schools across India.
The tool follows a two-stage screening process. In the first stage, regular teachers identify possible learning and developmental concerns through classroom observations. In the second stage, special educators and counselors conduct detailed assessments to validate the findings and recommend appropriate interventions.
One of the major highlights of PRASHAST 2.0 is its integration with national education databases such as UDISE+, APAAR ID, and the Swavlamban Card Portal. This helps in better tracking of student support systems and improves access to government schemes under Samagra Shiksha.
Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, PRASHAST 2.0 is expected to play a key role in building a more inclusive, equitable, and technology-driven education system in India.
