C. Joseph Vijay Takes Oath as Tamil Nadu CM, TVK Forms Historic Government in 2026

By Soniya:

Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has officially taken oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking a historic political transformation in the State. With the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the single-largest party in the 2026 Assembly elections with 108 seats, Tamil Nadu is witnessing its first government outside the traditional DMK-AIADMK political structure since 1967.

The grand swearing-in ceremony took place at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, where Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Vijay and his Cabinet ministers. The event attracted massive public attention, with political leaders, film personalities, party workers, and supporters attending in large numbers.

Describing his government as the beginning of a “new era of secular and social justice politics,” Vijay introduced a Cabinet that combines experienced leaders, young political faces, and organisational strategists.

Key ministers in the first TVK Cabinet include N. Anand, regarded as Vijay’s close organisational strategist; Aadhav Arjuna, known for his strong youth outreach; former IRS officer K. G. Arunraaj, who brings administrative expertise; veteran leader K. A. Sengottaiyan; and urban political leaders such as P. Venkataramanan and Rajmohan Arumugam.

The Cabinet also reflects TVK’s emphasis on grassroots leadership and women’s representation, with leaders like C. T. R. Nirmal Kumar, T. K. Prabhu, and young minister S. Keerthana joining the government.

Political observers view the formation of the TVK government as a major turning point in Tamil Nadu politics, signaling the rise of a new regional force that has reshaped the State’s political landscape.
