Raghav Chadha Appointed Chairman of Rajya Sabha Committee on Petitions

By Soniya:

Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has been appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Petitions of the Rajya Sabha. The appointment became effective from 20 May 2026 after the committee was reconstituted by Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan.

The Committee on Petitions is an important parliamentary body in the Rajya Sabha that examines petitions submitted by citizens and organizations on matters of public importance and legislative concern. The committee studies grievances, reviews issues raised before Parliament, and makes recommendations to improve governance and policy implementation.

The reconstituted committee includes 10 nominated members, including Harsh Mahajan, Gulam Ali, Shambhu Sharan Patel, Mayankkumar Nayak, Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Jebi Mather Hisham, Subhasish Khuntia, Rwngwra Narzary, and P. Sandosh Kumar.

Raghav Chadha’s appointment comes shortly after his political shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party in April 2026, after previously serving as a senior leader and Rajya Sabha representative of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Parliamentary committees play a crucial role in India’s legislative system by enabling detailed examination of laws, public grievances, and administrative matters beyond regular parliamentary debates. The Committee on Petitions is considered an important mechanism for citizen participation in parliamentary processes and democratic accountability.
